Boston, MA – FCLTGlobal announced today that Bob Sternfels, Global Managing Partner of McKinsey & Company, has joined its board of directors. McKinsey is a founding member of FCLTGlobal, having co-founded the original Focusing Capital on the Long Term initiative in 2013.

Sternfels is the 13th global managing partner to lead McKinsey since its founding in 1926. As a former leader of the firm’s operations practice in the Americas and private equity & principal investors practice globally, Bob led McKinsey’s client capabilities globally to ensure the organization continued to meet the changing needs of its clients around the world. This work significantly expanded McKinsey’s capabilities in several key areas, such as digital, advanced analytics, implementation, transformation, and sustainability, and included the April 2021 launch of its Sustainability Practice.

Sternfels said: “It’s never been more important for leaders to take a long-term view on strategy and capital allocation. Today, businesses must grow while building resilience, addressing climate change, and assuring workforces are ready for the jobs of the future. This is the key to building value for shareholders and stakeholders alike in an increasingly complex world. I look forward to supporting the FCLT in its important mission to focus capital on the long term and, in doing so, advance a more sustainable and inclusive economy for all.”

As global managing partner, Sternfels chairs McKinsey’s elected board of directors and is a member of the McKinsey Institute for Black Economic Mobility advisory council and a sponsor of its Women in the Workplace research. He is also active in key business institutions and involved with several global initiatives related to the improvement of business and society, including the Business Roundtable, the Asia Business Council, the Fortune CEO Initiative, the New York Jobs CEO Council, the Tsinghua SEM Advisory Board and Trilateral Commission. He has spoken at events hosted by the World Economic Forum, Bloomberg, and several other leading organizations.

FCLTGlobal’s board directors hold leadership roles within its member organizations. Members participate in action-oriented programming, fund ongoing operations, and actively contribute to current research initiatives that promote long-term-oriented strategies for companies and investors worldwide.

“Since we began FCLTGlobal, McKinsey’s leadership and staff have played a critical role in the creation of our research and the advancement of our mission. Bob’s experience and insight will help us continue to build the organization that McKinsey helped to create more than five years ago,” said Sarah Keohane Williamson, FCLTGlobal’s CEO and a member of the board, ex-officio.
