Chinta Bhagat

Chinta Bhagat is a global professional and has lived and worked across Asia, Europe and the United States for over thirty years. His primary interest lies in the research and practice of various forms of ownership and how these forms manifest themselves in different governance constructs. He has read, written and spoken widely on this topic, equipped with his direct experience gained through his professional journey as a CEO, a consultant and investor; as well as in the time he has spent working with public intellectuals, think tanks and educational institutions.

Chinta is Founder and CEO of Aries Holdings, a global special situations investor in the consumer and healthcare categories. From 2019-2024, Chinta was Chairman and Managing Partner, Asia at L Catterton, the world’s largest consumer focused private equity firm part owned by LVMH, which manages ~US$35 billion globally. In this role, Chinta led the transformation of this firm’s Asian business, working across Tokyo, Singapore, Beijing, Shanghai and Mumbai. From 2015-2019, Chinta was Co Head of Private Markets at Khazanah Nasional, a major Asian sovereign wealth fund, overseeing $5 billion across a range of private and public market assets. In both these roles, Chinta developed a reputation for boardroom stewardship at large, complex enterprises, matching time horizon and stakeholder interests to deliver above market outcomes. From 2001-2014, Chinta was in various roles at McKinsey & Company, including serving as Managing Partner of the Singapore office for six years. In this role, his primary focus was serving owners of businesses (private equity, families, sovereign funds), to design and implement their systems to align with the outcomes they expected from these enterprises. He also led the creation of McKinsey’s Board Services practice, focused on creating value-oriented boardroom practices on behalf of large owners, which was subsequently subsumed into McKinsey’s activity under the FCLT umbrella.

Chinta was also involved in the creation of Stewardship Asia, a Temasek-led initiative, where he served on the board; he serves on the industry advisory board of the SP Jain Management Institute, a multi-country Asian business school franchise; and he has been a long-term advisor to the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy of Singapore. He studied Architecture at the University of Mumbai and completed an M.B.A. at INSEAD in France, where he is a donor and occasional guest lecturer.
