Job Opportunities

We are looking for a research associate to join our growing team. Below is more information on the role and how to apply.

THE ORGANIZATION:
 FCLT Global is a global not-for-profit organization based in Boston whose mission is to develop practical tools and approaches that encourage long-term thinking in business and investment decision-making.

FCLT Global takes an active and market-based approach to achieve its goals. By conducting research and convening business leaders, FCLT Global develops tools and generates awareness of ways in which a longer-term focus can increase innovation, economic growth and future savings.

Originally known as the Focusing Capital on the Long Term initiative and managed by the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB) and McKinsey & Company, in September 2016 FCLT Global become an independent membership organization. BlackRock, Dow and Tata joined CPPIB and McKinsey as co-founders and the broader membership encompasses asset owners, asset managers and corporations from around the world.

FCLT Global’s task is just beginning and the organization has a huge opportunity to have deep and lasting impact on business and capital markets.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: FCLT Global is looking to appoint a high caliber individual to help build the organization as a Research Associate. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape FCLT Global’s thinking and research, and also to build the operational capabilities of the organization during this formative period.

The Research Associate will work closely with the Director and spend approximately two thirds of their time on a series of high impact research projects (e.g., developing an index of long-termism, creating a model long-term investment mandate with asset owners and asset managers, assessing the impact of buybacks on corporate performance and macro-economic growth). These projects will involve collaborating directly with FCLT Global’s member organizations as well as academics, think tanks and practitioners.

The successful individual will also be responsible for an area of operational execution. The area will be jointly selected based on interest and prior experience, but will likely be one of strategic communications, membership management, financial planning, or regional events.

The Research Associate will also contribute more broadly to the evolution of FCLT Global, including by inputting into the strategic plan, staying engaged with media coverage and public discussions on topics of long-termism, and suggesting ways to deepen engagement with our members.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE: FCLT Global combines the energy of a small start-up organization with the reach of a global network of top-tier members companies and investors. As such, the successful candidate will display creativity, passion, and an entrepreneurial spirit. They must have a sense of urgency, a demonstrated comfort dealing with ambiguity and the tenacity to work through the unexpected.

In particular candidates should have:

  • Demonstrated experience or interest in issues around long-termism, the investment value chain, reforming capital markets and drivers of broad based macro-economic growth;

  • Demonstrated ability to conceptualize, initiate, structure and execute projects, and to translate research and conceptual work into meaningful recommendations and products;

  • Experience preparing written outputs suitable for a CEO audience in Word and PowerPoint;

  • Comfort conducting basic quantitative analyses in Excel;

  • Strong verbal communication skills, including experience and comfort interacting with senior leaders and decision-makers;

  • Track-record of balancing multiple stakeholders and building consensus;

  • Ability to independently manage multiple projects through to completion in a dynamic and changing environment;

  • Accountable, with a strong sense of professionalism and integrity;

  • Enthusiasm for working with FCLT Global’s member organizations, which could be demonstrated by previous client service experience;

  • Undergraduate degree with strong academic credentials and a minimum of 2 years of work experience; and

  • Prior experience in issues relating to long-termism or work experience at a leading consulting firm, or at an asset manager, asset owner or in a corporate strategy team are a bonus, but not required.
